Arab Leadership University Announces Faculty Appointments Combining Research and Senior Practice

Arab Leadership University has announced a set of faculty appointments across the schools of business, computing, health sciences and education. The common thread is that each appointee holds both a research record and substantial practice experience.

The new business faculty include a former divisional finance director now researching capital allocation under uncertainty, and an operations academic who spent a decade in humanitarian logistics. Computing adds a machine-learning researcher who led model governance at a large bank and a security academic with incident-response experience across critical infrastructure. Health sciences appoints a clinician-researcher in quality improvement and a health economist from a national ministry. Education adds a former system leader researching assessment reform.

"Our students are practitioners," said the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs. "They can tell within two sessions whether the person teaching them has ever done the job. We recruit for both sides — the research and the practice — because the students need both."

All appointees teach on the online programmes, supervise dissertations and doctoral candidates, and hold student office hours across time zones. Several will contribute to the capstone panels where students defend their projects.

The appointments also strengthen supervision capacity for the doctoral programmes, which have grown as the tuition-free doctorates have opened.

Faculty profiles, including publications and practice background, are published on the university site so that applicants can see who would teach and supervise them before they apply.

Staff across admissions, registry, teaching and student services are told to design every process as if the default student is studying after a full day's work: recorded sessions, published rubrics, named advisers, and a library desk that does not close at the end of one country's office hours.
